A New South Wales taskforce has released draft recommendations on safety improvements after 5 delivery riders were killed on the job in two months.
According to union advocates, the changes don’t go far enough. Changes rejected include time caps of 12 hours on shifts.
It appears extensive lobbying by the gig delivery industry has been influential in the report.
The Transport Workers Union is so disappointed with the report they have withdrawn from the taskforce altogether.
Australia appears to be out of step with global trends in last mile delivery that have led to increased regulation and driver protection.
